Cook County "Driven" by Science State-of-the-Art Mobile Science Lab Unveiled by U of I Extension

October 5, 2007

October 6, 8, and 13 mark U of I Extension's launch of the Science on the Go Mobile Science Laboratory at three City of Chicago Science in the City Carnivals. The innovative vehicle will offer hands-on science lab experiences at individual work stations. Programs on the vehicle include animal dissection, DNA isolation, food science, astronomy and forensics to students of all ages in Cook County.

"Extension is reaching out to all communities to offer equal access to scientific knowledge and experiences," says Dr. James Oliver, Associate Chancellor & Assistant Dean, Urban and Metropolitan Affairs. "Science on the Go is a response to the serious shortage in our society of workers with science and math backgrounds. This initiative is an effort to close this gap by making science and math interesting and exciting for today's youth."

Science on the Go is a hands-on mobile lab that will travel to schools, libraries, churches, fairs, and neighborhood events in Chicago and suburban Cook County.
